After graduating from high school and completing his voluntary military service, Michael Knipper completed his law studies at Saarland University in 1982, followed by a legal traineeship. In 1985, he joined the Central Association of the German Construction Industry (Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie) as a speaker to the President and then became head of the Political Contacts Liaison Office in Bonn-Berlin. In 1992, Michael Knipper built up the Berlin-Brandenburg Construction Industry Association as Managing Director until he returned to the Federation of the German Construction Industry as Managing Director in 1996.
Michael Knipper is a board member of the German Public Procurement and Contract Committee for Construction Services and of the Research Institute for Economic Constitution and Competition Law. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Urban Development, Housing and Building Savings and of the Leibniz Institute for Economic Development at the University of Munich.
